Rebel

A rebel with a heart of gold
she never would be tamed
A woman from an early age
her passions often flamed...

Her life was like a flaming torch
was burning from the start
The fire that she lit in me
still burns within my heart

Hurricane Michael

So much was lost in just a day
the storm that changed our lives
We never thought this day would come
somehow our town survives...

Gone are all the lights and trees
debris is everywhere
What's left is now a sorted heap
we sift through what's still there...

We're going to make it all come back
the promise we all say
How do we heal the troubled minds
that can't get past that day?...

Home Town

I'm back to where it all began
but all my friends aren't here
How the memories come to me
they all now gather near...

We always said we'd come back home
I waited far too long
The old home town looks much the same
but something's very wrong...

So many faces I don't know
they give a passing glance
I search each one in hopes I'll find
a kindred soul by chance...

I still can hear the music play
the parties at the lake
The many times we gathered there
the friendships we would make...

Fate

I still remember what you said
so many years ago
Had fate just waited one more day
a shame we'll never know...

Sometimes a memory comes to me
and tears begin to fall
Oh the many times I've sighed
we could have had it all...

Every time I reached for you
the timing wasn't right
And when at last you called for me
our chance was gone that night...

I hope one day you'll read these words
and know just how I feel
A lifetime knowing I was wrong
a heart that still can't heal...

Back Then

How profound the deep regrets
that haunt me to this day
Even after all these years
they just won't go away...

My mind keeps wrestling with my heart
what could and might have been
If only I had not been blind
when I was young back then...

Michael

The clouds grow darker by the hour
there's madness in the air
We should have left when we had time
debris blows everywhere...

The howling winds begin to cry
a haunting diatribe
Bands of water strike with force
as winds and rain collide...

The trees assaulted mercilessly
they're shaken to the core
They're caught up in a frenzied state
they bend and bow some more...

One by one they start to fall
the roof begins to tear
Fear begins to take control
we huddle now in prayer...

For hours much uncertainty
and then a sudden calm
I hope up the closet door
and everything, is gone

Storm

I'm growing weary of the storm
the lightening doesn't stop
Winds are howling in my mind
each day another drop...

I keep on looking at the sky
but all I see are tears
Oh that rainbows would appear
a calm to all of my fears...
