Looking Back

When I was young I laughed a lot

the world, much simpler then

Everyone I met in life

I counted as a friend...

A new adventure every day

no end to all the joy

Fridays were our special night

the girls were cute and coy...

But then one summer all would change

on graduation night

Hugs and kisses everyone

and then we all took flight...

Victory Bridge

A winding bridge of days gone by

a generation served

So aptly named the Victory Bridge

her presence still preserved...

The trees give comfort from the sun

and weeds adorn her rails

Warning signs displayed for all

they hang by rusty nails...

Today she sits alone and still

in silence she awaits

In time we know they'll come for her

and what will be her fate...

Sometimes the truth can be so clear
you feel it in your soul
A knowing that comes over you
and fully takes control...

The silence almost deafening
illusions disappear
A growing desperate loneliness
that slowly now draws near...

I truly understand it all
it had to end this way
We couldn't find a path for us
I knew you wouldn't stay...

We filled a void we knew so well
the bitter emptiness
A night the passions that we shared
rewarded us with bliss...

You brought out feelings I had lost
so many years ago
For just a very little while
I watched our faces glow...
